The first morning WSBK test session dawned wet and remained so until the end, with only eight riders venturing out. Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) was comfortably the fastest rider, setting a 1'56.162 on his Ducati, almost two seconds faster than Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team).
Pata Aprilia rider Noriyuki Haga was third quickest, with Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia) fourth. Badovini's team-mate James Toseland was fifth, with the early eight rounded out by Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare), Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) and Supersonic Racing Team Ducati rider, Maxime Berger.
