Multiple Polish racing champion Pawel Szkopek (Bogdanka PTR Honda) stands on the eve of his new season ready to make a jump up in his career curve, as he takes part in the Supersport World Championship in a top team. Pawel knows the challenge will be a tough one but since joining the Honda squad for the winter tests he has already made progress. He finished the recent Phillip Island IMS test sessions 16th of 26 riders, with more to come as he gathers experience.
Szkopek, who has been called the Robert Kubica on two wheels in his native Poland, said, "I am very happy to be in this calibre of team, because I was always doing my own bikes before. I still have to learn a lot, especially about making the bike better for each given track. In the past I just got on the bike I had and rode. Things are more complicated here, and so many things can be changed, but I hope to learn quickly. I was happy with the consistency we showed in the tests here, because I did some long runs and the times were really close. Not extremely fast, so there is still some work to be done with bike settings to make me faster for qualifying this weekend. As far as the season goes, I want to be a regular within the points scoring positions, and given that we will find the correct settings, and I learn this bike quickly, I think that top tens should be possible. That is what I am hoping for."
