Non-stop rain since yesterday halted progress in the second qualifying session at Miller Motorsports Park, preventing any improvement in the lap times. As a result Carlos Checa remains at the top as they riders head towards Superpole, in front of the Aprilia Alitalia duo of Leon Camier and Max Biaggi.
In the session the quickest time was set by Camier, ahead of Jakub Smrz (Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati) and Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport). Checa was fourth, despite his slight aversion to the wet, ahead of Sylvain Guintoli (Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati) and Biaggi.

Marco Melandri was the only rider to crash, the Italian and his Yamaha machine ending up in the muddy infield. Those who failed to make this afternoon's Superpole cut were Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Racing Team), James Toseland (BMW Motorrad Italia SBK), Mark Aitchison (Pedercini Kawasaki), Maxime Berger (Supersonic Racing Ducati) and Roberto Rolfo (Pedercini Kawasaki).
