Danilo Petrucci (Barni Racing Team Ducati) laid down the gauntlet to his fellow STK1000 runners by setting a scintillating time of 2 minutes 01.161 seconds, almost one full second clear of the next man, Lorenzo Zanetti (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock). Zanetti was a fraction ahead of points leader Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) in third, while the all-Italian front row will be completed by the returning Niccolò Canepa on another Ducati, the SS Lazio Motorsport version.
A second BMW, that of Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock) notched up fifth place to head row 2, with Andrea Antonelli (Lorini Honda) and South African Sheridan Morais (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) the top runners on Japanese four-cylinder machinery.
